CALL FOR RESEARCH / EDUCATION ABSTRACTS – CLOSED January 31, 2023
The Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) invited pharmacy educators, researchers and students to submit abstracts for the AFPC Annual Conference in Winnipeg, June 13-16, 2023. A record 122 abstracts were submitted by the January 31 deadline. Authors will be informed of acceptance no later than April 15, 2023.
Abstracts could be submitted for oral presentations (during concurrent mini-sessions or Special Interest Group [SIG] education sessions) or poster presentations, under four categories: 1) pharmacy education initiative, 2) teaching and learning research / scholarship, 3) pharmaceutical science and 4) pharmacy practice research. Please note the following information:
- For CPERC 2023 AFPC again used the MyAbstract online system to submit, peer review and manage abstracts: https://events.decorporate.ca/AFPC2023/abstract/login.php. Only abstracts that conform to the prescribed format will be considered.
- Peer Review: abstracts will be peer-reviewed for both oral and poster presentations, and may be accepted, conditionally accepted (according to reviewers' comments) or rejected.
- Authors will be informed of acceptance no later than April 15.
- CPERC conference registration is mandatory for all students, researchers and educators whose abstracts are accepted for presentation. Oral and poster presenters must register for the conference no later than May 15.
- Presentations for oral and poster sessions will occur on June 14 and 15. The specific date and time is dependent upon the number of abstracts accepted. Presenters will be advised of their scheduled presentation times.
- Concurrent Mini-Sessions will be 20 minutes in duration (15-minute presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A). Topics applicable to contemporary pharmacy education initiatives, teaching and learning research / scholarship, and pharmacy practice research are of interest. These include curricular development; innovations in teaching; impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; learning and assessment; educational scholarship; experiential education; admissions; scholarly inquiries; faculty-led pharmacy practice innovations; and findings from educational and pharmacy practice research.
- Concurrent AFPC Special Interest Group (SIG) Education Sessions will be 20 minutes in duration (15-minute presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A) and can be presented under the following nine AFPC SIGs:
- Educational Assessment
- Program Evaluation
- Experiential Education (PEP-C)
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Skills Lab
- Informatics
- Truth & Reconciliation
- Self-Care Therapeutics & Minor Ailments
- Geriatrics
- Oral presentations: up to two people can co-present. If there is a second presenter, this person should be listed as a co-presenting author. Changes to the presenting author(s) can be made online before May 10, 2023. After this date, email admin@afpc.info.
- Presenting author: is limited to a maximum of five abstract submissions under his/her name.
- AFPC Educational Scholarship Poster Award (ESPA): this faculty award will recognize the best innovative and effective educational scholarship poster presented at the AFPC annual conference. See award details here. To be eligible, authors must indicate that their poster is to be considered for the ESPA when submitting the abstract (oral abstracts will also be considered, if the author agrees to present a poster if their abstract is judged in the top 10).
- Abstract Publication in CPJ: Following CPERC, AFPC intends to publish the accepted oral and poster abstracts in the Canadian Pharmacists Association’s Canadian Pharmacists Journal as an online supplement. This publication will help promote and disseminate pharmacy education initiatives, educational scholarship, pharmaceutical science and pharmacy practice research. Please indicate your permission to publish your CPERC 2022 abstract, if accepted, in CPJ. You can indicate Yes, No or Unsure. As an example, see the CPJ supplement of the CPERC 2022 abstracts.
- Poster boards will be available. For oral presentations, standard audiovisual equipment (LCD projector, laptop, screen and podium with microphone) will be provided. Presenters will be required to post a PDF of their poster and slides for oral presentation on the speaker portal.
- AFPC does not assume responsibility for any conference attendance or registration costs for oral or poster presenters.
